For Booka Shade 2005 has been a marvelous year. It all began with the release of their widely admired debut album ‘Memento’ which they followed up by taking their rocking live show on the road. They have earned a reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting new acts, a status confirmed with an electric performance at the 2005 Sónar festival in Barcelona, and upcoming dates supporting Royksopp on tour and Mylo in London.

A highlight of the live show is their latest single the huge club hit ‘Mandarine Girl'. Their co-operation with label-mates M.A.N.D.Y. resulted in ‘Body Language’ which won the DJ award ‘Ibiza Track of the Season 2005’.

They’ve recently remixed Moby (mute), The Juan McLean (dfa), and are playing a number of excellent club dates in the coming months. The culmination of a fantastic year is the additional honour of Get Physical being voted as ‘label of the year’ in DJ magazine.

Booka Shade are Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier, the masterminds behind most Get Physical output (eg all releases and remixes of M.A.N.D.Y., DJ T., Sunsetpeople and singles of Chelonis R. Jones). Running their own production company and studio for the past 15 years, they have applied their wide range of talents not only to the realm of electronic music, but also many other media productions. After two early 90s synthpop album releases and a number of live tours, they switched their attention to club projects for established labels like R&S, Harthouse and Tommy Boy. But it was their early incarnation of Booka Shade on illustrious Dutch label Touché which hit the zeitgeist, triggering excitement and enthusiasm in clubs all across Europe.

Together with their old friends Patrick Bodmer and Philipp Jung, aka M.A.N.D.Y., they decided to found their own label and, after meeting Groove publisher Thomas Koch, aka DJ T, Get Physical was launched in early 2002. By 2004, after intense build up and promotion of M.A.N.D.Y., DJ T, Sunsetpeople and Chelonis R. Jones, it was time for Booka Shade to pursue their own solo career again.

For their first album “Memento” the two producers poured the essence of their joint musical background into contemporary moulds. Observing a healthy balance between pop appeal and experimentation they concocted unusual blends of modern 4/4 sketches and timeless listening titles. As part of a live set Booka Shade present excerpts from the album, alongside new club tracks. Visuals and films exclusively produced for the show help to translate the albums intense and cinematic atmosphere to the stage. In between gigs the duo are already working on tracks for their second album, due to be released in spring 2006 and followed by an extensive tour. The first single release from the new album is expected in January 2006.
