JUSTIN BERKMANN
MINISTRY OF SOUND, U.K.
There are many MOS residents, but only one is the true founder of
the legendary club and the biggest organization among clubs. He was the man who found the location
designed the interior, set up club policy, came up with the name and logo and even instlled th sound system.
Now he is playing around the globe. JB’s type of music is a mixture of British and American house / garage,
dub with vocals containing a slightly trancy vibe.

Pressetext:
The summer and its club nights at Ambasada Gavioli are drawing to an end, but before the grand finale on the 13th of September with David Morales, we have another evening in store for the lovers of quality techno music.

We'll be welcoming Frank Lorber on his Jailhouse Rocker Tour that promotes his new album of the same name. Meanwhile in the Mezanine you'll be introduced to the sound of Justin Berkmann, the founder of London's famous Ministry of Sound.

Frank Lorber claims he got into electronic dance music thanks to his father, who, at the age of 11, used to wake him up to the sound of Kraftwerk, Jean-Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream and others. Lorber was born in Giessen, but today he lives in Frankfurt, the cradle of German techno and its best musicians. At the age of 16 Lorber made his debut at the
turntables and in 1992 he took over the Saturday night residency at the legendary Omen club together with DJ Dag. The news about his exceptional sets travelled fast and already the next year he got his first international set. In '94 he turned to production and appeared on the Explizit Records label together with Pascal F.E.O.S. In '96, in collaboration with Joerg Henze, the owner of Delirium Records, he created
the Electronic Home Entertainment project. Later on his destiny joined him with Toni Rios and they started the label Attention Records. Two years later, in 1999, he created the project 69 together with Johannes Heil. The credit for Lorber's successful career goes not only to his excellent sets, but also to his charisma and warmth. He says the following about his musical style: »It's hard to explain what pushes me to choose a particular record. It's probably instinct. Most of the tracks are very energetic. There's a lot of sex and soul in there that
flow directly to your hips… …so move!«

Frank Lorber is coming to AG with his album Jailhouse Rocker, which he produced with the help of Johannes Heil, Joerg Henze and Anthony Rother. The album was released at Cocoon Recordings (Vaeth), where Lorber was
recently employing his talents.

Justin Berkmann sold his soul to house music in 1986 while visiting the Paradise Garage club in New York, where he stayed for the next two years and learned how to spin vinyl. In his 'American' period he was the resident DJ of the Tuesday night of the Nell's club, Saturdays at the Sanctuary, where he also gained some experience in event organisation, and at the end, Sundays at the Brutal club.
In '88 he returned to London, where he tried to raise the funds necessary for the opening of a club in the style of Paradise Garage. In the meantime he earned his bread playing at warehouse parties and one-night club stands. He was also the resident and co-promoter of the Heaven Garage club. In 1989 he met Humphrey Waterhouse, with whom he created the Ministry of Sound within the following two years. He spotted the location, conceived the interior, the club policy, the name, the logo, the membership system, etc. He was the musical/creative manager and resident DJ for three years after the inauguration. In '94 he left the MoS with the intention to dedicate more time to his family.
For the last six years the world's clubs have seen Berkmann back behind the decks. His style, which takes the listener on Justin's musical voyage, is a mix of British and American house/garage, dub and vocals with a trace of trance.
In '96 Berkmann made a break-though in Germany. He played on the Love Parade ('96), Rave & Cruise, Rave on Snow, Frontpage Tour, Mayday ('97), and so on…
Today he lives in Bologna, Italy. He's learning Italian and plans to open a new club.
