Das Genfer Abkommen von 1980 sieht vor, dass weißer Phosphor in zivilen Gegenden nicht als Waffe eingesetzt werden darf.
Es gibt allerdings kein gene-relles völkerrechtliches Verbot, wenn es um die Erzeugung von Nebel-schleiern oder um die Ausleuchtung von Kampfplätzen geht.

ich hab mir auch sicher über mittlerweile 8 stunden in den letzten tagen nebenbei einen livestream von einer cam reingezogen die bei einem fernsehsender vorort am dach steht ;-)

was ich so gehört habe?
dronen sound, heli sound, kampfjet sound, mörser sound, maschinengewehr sound, artillerie sound,
einen verückten gockelhahn der extrem genervt hat weil er andauernd gegackert hat... (sa. nacht fast die ganze zeit grml..)
+ irgendwelche freaks die mitten in der nacht bei denen auf der strasse rumrennen obwohl andauernd was vom himmel kommt
und so wie in div. youtube videos tlw zu hören so einen jammergesang durch ein vermutlich megaphon verbreitet hat..

was ich gesehn hab?
viel rauch, paar fahrende autos, raketen und artillerie granaten beim einschlag, brennende häuser.

warum das alles? > weil es mich intressiert das zu sehen was die medien einem nicht zeigen. orf hat bis gestern zb. von den phosphor granaten genau garnichts berichtet und ist auch so recht schwach was das angeht. div andere sender wie cnn und co. haben niemanden vor ort. weil a) sie niemanden dort haben und b) die israelis niemanden rein lassen.

somit hol ich mir die infos halt von div anderen seiten auch wenn ich kein wort versteh von dem was geschrieben oder gesprochen wird. aber alleine durch die videos und bilder kann man sich schön selbst ein bild davon machen was dort abgeht.

d.h wer sich die in diesem thread geposteten vids. mal durchgesehen hat weiss zumindest was so abgeht. (abseits des politischen drecks..)
was mir massivst auf die ei... geht:
das die medien vor jedem krieg die augen zu machen + die sendungs verantwortlichen wegschaun und die leute im dunklen stehn gelassen werden.
warum es mich anfu...? weil dadurch den ganzen hirnlosen heinzis klar werden würde das krieg ka spass ist.

so auf die haben sicher bombenstimmung muhahaha... > wenn genau diese leute mal sehen würden was ich bisher an material (nicht nur aus dem gaza konflikt gesehen habe) würde sich sehr rasch eine viel größere anti kriegs meinung verbreiten und in den köpfen einstellen!

zeigst du einem so einem dann (es reichen 3-4) videos haben genau diese eine gänsehaut das sie sich anscheissen!

gleiches gilt auch für div. politiker. ich bin mir zu 100% sicher das viele von den für sowas verantworlichen tlw. nicht mal gesehen haben was sie angerichtet haben bzw. anrichten.

GAZA, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Israel won renewed support from its key ally the United States on Monday when President George W. Bush said a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip depended on Hamas ending its rocket fire on Israeli towns.

As the Palestinian death toll passed 900, including many civilians, troops tightened their grip around urban areas in search of elusive guerrillas and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Israel would pursue the 17-day-old war as long as it took.

Troops and tanks, backed by warplanes and helicopters that mounted more than 25 air strikes, probed into guerrilla defences around the city of Gaza, wary of snipers and booby traps. Hamas fighters kept largely out of sight, firing several rockets into Israel and bracing for an all-out assault that may yet come.

As international diplomats worked with Egypt on a truce plan, an Israeli military spokesman said the army had yet to launch a much-heralded "Phase 3" of the war, following the initial air campaign and then ground advance.

But reserve units had moved in, he said, to hold positions and free up regulars for thrusts deeper into the city of Gaza.

Hamas's government leader in Gaza made a rare television and radio broadcast from a secret location, promising that "victory is at hand" and saying the many deaths there would haunt Bush.

The bloodshed has burst open fragile faultlines in the map of Middle East diplomacy, with the Bush administration in its final week standing firm behind Israel, European governments pressing it to call off its attacks and Arab leaders speaking out against the Jewish state.

On Monday, Saudi Arabia, an oil power and one of several Arab governments whose pro-American stance is far from popular with its people, accused Israel of "racist extermination" and said it hoped Bush's successor Barack Obama would work swiftly to resolve the 60-year-old Palestinian issue.

BUSH CALLS ON HAMAS TO CHOOSE

Bush said Hamas Islamists, who won a 2006 parliamentary election and seized control of Gaza 18 months ago, had to act to end the misery of the enclave's 1.5 million people.

"I'm for a sustainable ceasefire, and a definition of sustainable ceasefire is Hamas stops firing rockets into Israel ... I happen to believe the choice is Hamas's to make," he said.

Supporting Israel's view that "Operation Cast Lead" is one of self-defence against rockets that had killed 18 people since 2001, Bush said Israel should be mindful of "innocent folks".

Figures from Palestinian medics indicate at least 909 people have been killed. The health minister in Gaza's Hamas-run government said close to 400 of those were woman and children.

Medics said Israeli forces killed nine Palestinians, including at least five civilians, in Monday's violence. Israel says seven of its soldiers and three civilians have been killed since it launched its offensive on Dec. 27.

Saudi Arabia's cabinet said in a statement: "The extermination Israel is launching upon the Palestinian people in Gaza has denuded Israeli leaders of humanity and places their policies in the ranks of racist extermination."

It hoped Obama, who takes office on Jan. 20 and who has called the civilian deaths "heartbreaking", would work immediately on a "fair resolution of the Palestinian question".

Obama has made no clear policy statement on the fighting.

CAIRO TALKS

International Middle East envoy Tony Blair said after talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Egypt on Monday that "the elements of an agreement of the immediate ceasefire are there and are now being worked on very hard in great detail".

Egypt, another Arab government close to Washington but with a strong Islamist opposition, is trying to broker a ceasefire to halt the fighting on its northern border. A senior Western diplomat and a Hamas official called Monday's talks positive.

Israeli leaders, who are also fighting for re-election on Feb. 10, have given few clues on how long they are prepared to continue the offensive, although some officials have cited the inauguration of Obama, a U.N. ceasefire resolution and the election as factors pushing them toward calling off the troops.

Political sources said Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, head of the ruling Kadima party, and Defence Minister Ehud Barak, head of centre-left Labour, wanted to halt the operation as soon as possible. But, the sources said, Olmert, who resigned as Kadima chief in September over a corruption probe, disagreed.

Israel, backed by its Western allies, says any ceasefire must depend on Hamas halting rocket fire -- 16 landed in Israel on Monday, the army said -- and, crucially, also wants measures to stop Hamas from rearming via the tunnels under the Egypt-Gaza border, in an area known as the Philadelphi corridor.

"We want Hamas to understand there will be no possibility of smuggling arms into Gaza, because any such attempt will be met by the iron fist of the Israeli people," Olmert said. "Nothing more, nothing less. If it takes time, it takes time."

Hamas negotiators returned to Cairo late on Monday after consulting the leadership in exile in Damascus. Hamas's leader in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, said on television that it was ready to negotiate a truce but insisted it would do so only if Israel pulled back all its forces and ended a blockade on Gaza.

"After 17 days of this mad war, Gaza will not be broken and Gaza will not collapse," Haniyeh said.

Western and Israeli officials said diplomats were discussing an internationally-assisted technical monitoring system to help Egypt stop weapons smuggling and intercept rocket shipments.

Israeli warplanes have repeatedly bombed the Philadelphi corridor along Gaza's 14-km (nine-mile) border with Egypt, seemingly trying to damage tunnels. Western diplomats have said Israel might also decide to send in ground troops there. UNO verurteilt Angriffe
Der UNO-Menschenrechtsrat verurteilte indes die israelischen Angriffe und kündigte eine Untersuchung der "schweren" Menschenrechtsverletzungen der Streitkräfte an. Die Ratsmitglieder nahmen eine entsprechende Resolution an, die jedoch von westlichen Staaten nicht unterstützt wurde.

Während 33 afrikanische, asiatische, arabische und lateinamerikanische Länder für die Entschließung stimmten, enthielten sich 13 überwiegend europäische Staaten der Stimme - Kanada stimmte als einziges Land dagegen. Vertreter westlicher Staaten bezeichneten den von arabischen und afrikanischen Staaten vorgelegten Text als zu einseitig.

But the most important strategic decision the Israelis have made so far, according to senior military officers and analysts, is to approach their incursion as a war, not a police operation.

Civilians are warned by leaflets, loudspeakers and telephone calls to evacuate battle areas. But troops are instructed to protect themselves first and civilians second.

Officers say that means Israeli infantry units are going in “heavy.” If they draw fire, they return it with heavy firepower. If they are told to reach an objective, they first call in artillery or airpower and use tank fire. Then they move, but only behind tanks and armored bulldozers, riding in armored personnel carriers, spending as little time in the open as possible.

As the commander of the army’s elite combat engineering unit, Yahalom, told the Israeli press on Wednesday: “We are very violent. We do not balk at any means to protect the lives of our soldiers.” His name cannot be published under censorship rules.

“Urban warfare is the most difficult battlefield, where Hamas and Islamic Jihad have a relative advantage, with local knowledge and prepared positions,” said Jonathan Fighel of Israel’s International Institute for Counterterrorism. “Hamas has a doctrine; this is not a gang of Rambos,” he said. “The Israeli military has to find the stitches to unpick, how to counterbalance and surprise.”

Israeli troops are moving slowly and, they hope, unpredictably, trying not to stay in one place for long to entice Hamas fighters “to come out and confront them,” Mr. Fighel said.


The Israeli Army has also come prepared for a battle both sides knew was inevitable. Every soldier, Israeli officials say, is outfitted with a ceramic vest and a helmet. Every unit has dogs trained to sniff out explosives and people hidden in tunnels, as well as combat engineers trained to defuse hidden bombs.

To avoid booby traps, the Israelis say, they enter buildings by breaking through side walls, rather than going in the front. Once inside, they move from room to room, battering holes in interior walls to avoid exposure to snipers and suicide bombers dressed as civilians, with explosive belts hidden beneath winter coats.

also das mein wissen über diesen konflikt mehr als nur oberflächlich ist geb ich gerne zu. aber ich versuch mich
in den letzten tagen zumindest ein bisl darüber einzuarbeiten - klingt vl. ein bisl makaber aber das ganze ist ja
auch hochinteressant find ich.

weiß nicht ob man hier jetzt eine grenze ziehen sollte ab welchen vorwissen es "erlaubt" ist darüber zu diskutieren
oder nicht. wer kann schon sagen, dass er die sache da unten wirklich versteht?

Israel beklagt wachsenden Antisemitismus

Israel beklagt eine Welle von wachsendem Antisemitismus in aller Welt als Folge seiner Militäroffensive im Gazastreifen. Mit großer Sorge nehme Israel Berichte zur Kenntnis, wonach Juden und Israelis vielerorts verbal oder körperlich angegriffen würden, hieß es gestern in einer Erklärung von Außenministerin Zipi Livni.

Dazu kämen die Schändung von jüdischen Friedhöfen und Synagogen sowie antisemitische Hetze bei pro-palästinensischen Demonstrationen. Manche Karikaturen und Leitartikel seien wie Überbleibsel aus den dunkelsten Tagen des 20. Jahrhunderts.

Livni forderte alle politischen Führer auf, alle diese Formen von Aufwiegelung und Hass zu unterdrücken, zu verurteilen und strafrechtlich zu verfolgen.

stimmt - aber die grenzen sind schwammig und es ist kein verfallen in "die alte opferrolle" wenn man einige entwicklungen in letzter
zeit kritisiert. hab nur ein paar videos/bilder gesehen von diversen "anti-krieg" demos... grauslich was da alles so gebrüllt und auf
plakate geschrieben wird. das die antisemitismus-keule oft zu unrecht als totschlagargument geschwungen wird ist natürlich auch richtig.

Olmert says he talked Bush out of cease-fire vote
It was his persuasion, the prime minister tells an audience, that kept the U.S. from supporting a U.N. resolution calling for an end to violence in Gaza. Washington doesn't dispute the claim.

Reporting from Washington -- Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert boasted Monday that he successfully pressured President Bush last week to reverse course on U.S. diplomacy over fighting in Gaza, in an episode that could sharpen tensions between the close allies at a sensitive moment.

Speaking to an audience in Ashkelon, Israel, Olmert said he had called Bush last Thursday and convinced him that the United States should not vote for a pending U.N. Security Council resolution urging a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.

Olmert said Bush's agreement "embarrassed" Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice because the resolution was one that she had "cooked up, she organized, she formulated, she maneuvered," according to comments reported by Israel Radio.

"And she was left pretty embarrassed, abstaining on a draft resolution she organized herself," Olmert added.

Within Israel, Olmert and his government have been under heavy criticism for not being able to blunt passage of the cease-fire resolution, and some analysts in the United States and Israel saw the comments as an attempt to deflect blame.

Sean McCormack, Rice's chief spokesman, said she had decided the previous day not to vote for the resolution. But some analysts said Olmert's remarks would be received with displeasure in Washington, since, among other things, he suggested that Israel has been directing U.S. policy on the Middle East.

"This is terrible for the United States," said Daniel Levy, a former Israeli peace negotiator. "This confirms every assumption they have in the Arab world about the tail wagging the dog. . . . It's a story you're likely to hear quoted there for years to come."

Levy also accused Olmert of "unparalleled arrogance." Olmert, who is about to leave office, may have thought mistakenly that his words would not be widely noticed.

"There are some things you don't say, even in Ashkelon, even in Hebrew," said Levy, who is now with the Century Foundation in Washington.

Olmert told the crowd that when he heard a Security Council vote was to come in 10 minutes, he tracked down Bush, who he was told was speaking in Philadelphia. According to Olmert's account, Bush left the podium to take his call.

Olmert said Bush told him he wasn't familiar with the text. But Olmert said he told the president: " 'I'm familiar. You can't vote for it.' [Bush] gave an order to the secretary of State, and she didn't vote for it."

The resolution was approved by 14 of the security council's 15 members in an evening vote. Rice abstained.

U.S. officials have not disputed Olmert's account. But in one inconsistency, Bush returned to the White House from Philadelphia hours before the U.N. vote, according to the president's schedule.

Critics in Israel have complained that the resolution, while nonbinding, reflected a failure of Israeli diplomacy. Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni didn't attend the debate, while a number of Arab foreign ministers were deeply involved in the three days of discussions over it.

A senior U.S. official said the Bush administration preferred a peace blueprint being assembled by Egypt, but didn't want to veto the U.N. resolution by voting against it.

There had been speculation that Rice was ordered to change course, and Olmert's version of events "seemed to make sense," said Nathan Brown, head of Middle East studies at George Washington University.

Rice had been pushing hard for the resolution draft, then abruptly shifted ground. Several European diplomats said afterward that they were shocked by the move.

"It seemed like a strange step," Brown said.

IDF: Navy didn't engage Iranian aid ship

Iranian Red Crescent says 'Zionist navy' prevented vessel from reaching Gaza Strip

IDF officials denied Tuesday Iran's claims that the Israeli Navy prevented an Iranian vessel carrying humanitarian supplies from reaching the Gaza Strip. The IDF Spokesperson's Office said that the Navy did not engage in any contact with the Iranian vessel.

Earlier Tuesday, Iran's Red Crescent Director Ahmed Musawi said that "the Zionist regime's Navy prevented the organization's vessel from reaching Gaza." The comments were reported by Iranian news agency Maher. The report did not provide any further details aside from noting that the ship's request to enter Gaza's territorial waters was rejected.

Hundreds flee for lives as Israel pounds Gaza by land and air

Israel's army fought street battles with Hamas fighters in Gaza's main city on Tuesday and bombarded the southern border from the air as the death toll from its war on Hamas neared the 1,000 mark. "This is the 18th day of the Israeli aggression against our people, which is becoming more ferocious each day as the number of victims rises," Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas said as terrified Gaza residents fled for their lives.

"Israel is keeping up this aggression to wipe out our people over there," added Abbas, speaking from his base in the West Bank.

Israeli special forces backed by tanks and air strikes barrelled their way ever deeper into Gaza City, advancing several hundred metres (yards) into several neighbourhoods in the south, witnesses and correspondents said.

The thud of tanks shells and the rattle of gunfire echoed through much of the day while bombing raids in the border town of Rafah sent hundreds of people fleeing onto the streets.

"There are continuous airstrikes along the Egyptian border -- about 60 families have all fled their houses which are situated several hundred metres from the border," Jawad Harb, a Palestinian working for the international aid agency CARE, told AFP as a series of deafening blasts echoed in the background.

Palestinian medical sources said that 54 more people had been killed in the latest day of fighting, bringing the overall toll to around 960 Palestinians.

(IsraelNN.com) Several aid organizations, including UNRWA and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have told the IDF that Hamas terrorists are looting supplies from the humanitarian aid intended for Gaza’s poor, confirmed IDF Major Peter Lerner, spokesman for Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT).
“We have had some reports of terrorists looting supplies, yes,� Lerner told Israel National News, “both complaints from the international aid organizations and also some aerial footage of some of the incidents.�

'Hamas trying to infiltrate IDF ranks'

IDF Chief of General Staff Lt. -Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi said Tuesday Hamas terrorists were attempting to infiltrate rank and file troops while wearing IDF uniform.

Speaking at the Kensset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Ashkenazi said the military identified and demolished many buildings where tunnel exits were located.

Channel 2 reported that one of the tunnels already had an opening on its Israeli side, complete with ladders and staircases, and that its discovery at the 12 hour prevented a terror attack. One Palestinian was killed inside the tunnel when it was demolished.

"Hamas has been badly hit, regarding losses in manpower including some top commanders, and also regarding property, infrastructure, weapons caches and staging areas. Our forces continue to operate in the theater and hit the military wing of Hamas," Ashkenazi said. "Fighting is taking place in an urban area, densely built and densely populated. Hamas is firing at our forces and we are firing back. An urban area - this is the theater in which our soldiers fight and this is where the toll of civilian casualties is likely to occur."
