The sleepy Slovenian town of Divaca is about to experience an invasion. There's a 7000-strong army of clubbers making its way towards the town, intent on spending 14 hours dancing to some of the world's best DJs. It's festival season and Eastern Europe is the place to be. Slovenia's reputation for quality clubbing has been getting stronger and stronger over the past few years, thanks to DJ/producers such as Umek and Valentino Kanzyani and clubs such as Ambasada Gavioli in the seaside town of Izola.

Now it's getting a name for festivals too, with the Explicit Musick promotions agency leading the way with events like Meet Me. Now in its fourth year, Meet Me is Slovenia's biggest festival, attracting clubbers from all over the world to the scenic surroundings of Divaca. Slovenia might be a tiny country, but its promoters think big, and the Explicit crew have put together an international line-up for Meet Me, which includes America's DJ Rush, Britain's Steve Lawler, Desyn Masiello and Ben Sims, and French house hero Bob Sinclar. And, of course, there's plenty of local talent, including Umek and Valentino, playing across the festival's five stages. And this impressive line-up comes on the same weekend that the massive Exit festival is taking place in nearby Serbia. They're ready to travel for a good party around these parts, so it's testament to Explicit and Meet Me's reputation that so many quality DJ's - and clubbers - are choosing Slovenia over Serbia.

There's a sell-out crowd in tonight, but it's the techno tent that's the biggy. The floor's rammed with Germans, Italians, Croatians, Austrians and even a few Brits lapping up Umek's tough, no-nonsense set. The Slovenian crowds are amazing - this music is hard and fast, and they're giving it everything, sweat pouring off of them as they bounce around the dancefloor. And not only do they seem to have boundless reverses of energy and enthusiasm, they also know their music.

When Rush takes over from Umek, the crowd goes mental, screaming like maniacs as he drops his first funk-filled tune. His set is addictive stuff, dragging you and demanding your attention. It's only the prospect of Desyn Masiello playing on the progressive stage that drags you away. Desyn seems to have a strange sixth sense that allows him to track down records that no other DJ can find - better than that, every track is a cracker. There are huge basslines, soaring melodies and addictive hooks belting out from the speakers as Desyn mans the decks. It's the perfect way to get you ready for his forthcoming mix album on Bedrock.

Steve Lawler's up next, and he decides to give prog tent something a bit tougher. His set builds and builds as the music slams its way across the floor and the crowds flood in. It's just as busy next door in the house tent where Bob Sinclar is playing a funky, chunky set to an ecstatic audience. It might not be his usual mix of slinky Gallic housers, but it's bang on target and a treat to listen to.

By 10am, the party's just about wrapping up. But the crowds haven't had enough and a good percentage of them decamp to the car park to carry on dancing as the sun creeps over the Slovenian hills. And with the sound of a successful Meet Me still ringing in their ears, the Explicit crew are preparing for their next big party, Sindustry, also in Divaca, on 28th August. With a line-up that includes Futureshock, Sonique, James Zabiela - who's promoting his new Renaissance album 'Alive' - Chris Liebing, Marco Bailey, Technasia and, of course, Umek and Valentino, it's more proof that this little country is fast becoming a clubbing force to be reckoned with.

As Desyn Masiello says a few days later: "I have to say that Slovenians have got their shit sorted when it comes to clubbing". You can't help but agree.

Prinzipiell bin ich bei Dir, aber genau die Typen gehen mir schon mächtig auf die Nerven, genauso wie die väth/hawtin/beyer connection, die ja auch inflationär gebucht wird.... . Es gibt genug neue technoacts, die weder minimal noch geballer spielen und technisch den genannten herren (mit ausnahme sims und kanzyani) weit überlegen oder mindestens ebenbürtig sind... aber gut, es funktioniert, somit hat es seine Berechtigung, lustig wars sicher, buntere mädels sieht man kaum irgendwo....
