After Mel Simpson left the band in 1995, you begun the only true member of US3, in which are other vocalists and rappers hosting crew. How many musicians and vocalists can we expect at your gig at Creamfields Central Europe? And what songs do you plan to play - all from the new album? And do you plan on any surprise?
It’s an 8-piece band on stage, 6 musicians & 2 rappers. We’ll be playing a selection of tracks from all 7 albums.

In April you released new album Stop.Think.Run. Can you describe that record? Are you satisfied with its sound? And what about the audience reaction?
It’s probably a bit more hip-hop orientated than recent Us3 albums, a bit tougher, although there’s a lot of variety in the production itself. I’m really happy with it, and the audience reaction to the new songs when we toured in April was really good. I’m also starting to pick up some great reviews in the USA.

You described the title of new album as a moment in life, when we have to stop and think about what we are doing and if it is right... and then run for the right thing (sometimes) instead. I suppose then you experienced this moment? What was it about?
Well that’s what I did last year. I took some time out to reappraise what I was doing and now I’m back and running again! I think everyone at some stage in their life has to stop 7 think about what they’re doing before they can move forward.

You play in Czech republic since 2005, do you like czech fans, are they somehow different from other countries?
We’ve always had a great reaction from the Czech fans. It would be nice if more of them bought the albums rather than just downloading it for free though.

And do you know some czech bands/DJs?
No.

Your debut Hand on the Torch achieved Platinum status, Cantaloop was global hit - do you feel sorry this succes never repeated in the same way? Do you wonder about why it is so?
When I started I never thought it would last this long so I’m really happy & grateful that I’m still able to do this. Having a hit single & album was nice but it was a bit crazy then, we toured all over the world non-stop for about 18 months. The way the industry is at the moment it’s unlikely that will ever happen again, but that’s cool.

On every new album there are new vocalists, rappers, musicians - is it intention or coicidence? Do you feel that these new people are changing the style or image of US3, or do you arrange everything (even style changes) only on your own?
It was always the plan that the vocalists would change on each album. Us3 isn’t a normal “band”, I build it from scratch with every album. That way it keeps it exciting for me, and hopefully for the audience too.

On the new album your vocalists are very young, do you feel it as a advantage, do you think they can "modernize" the US3 project?
I think they already have, listen to the album!

In another interview you said that your sampling classic jazz with beats and rap has a potential to broaden jazz to young people. Do you thing it was succesfull?
I hope so. It’s impossible to tell, but I think it definitely had a positive effect.

I also read, that the first time you ever heard jazz, you actually didn´t like it, is it true? What was the breakpoint then?
Well I was only about 9 years old then! I guess I grew up...

In your career start, you produced track called Where Will We Be in 21st Century. So, where are you now?
It was a rhetorical question, but I feel like I’m in a good space now. I’m working with great people in a creative environment, and you can’t ask for more than that.

US3 achieved 12 years of existence, what was your strongest (both musical and personal) experience since then?
Actually I signed my first contract with Capitol/Blue Note in 1992, so it’s been 17 years! It’s impossible to pick one moment out. Life is a journey not a destination, and I’m enjoying the ride.

And what was the inspiration to start a project like that?
I’ve been inspired by many things. At the start I was working as a DJ, and I just wanted to make some music that other DJs would play. I still do!

On the Internet I wasn´t able to find anything about your personal life, whether you have family and things like that... Is it intentional, do you protect your personal informations? If not, could you describe yourself to our readers?
Yes I have a family, a beautiful 6 year old daughter. I’m not a person to go seeking the limelight though, I enjoy being “the producer” making it all happen in the background.
