sonstiges TROPHY TWINS (Red Recordings, BBC radio 1 / UK)

The Trophy Twins are one of House music’s rising stars. They began their career in the North of England at clubs like Gatecrasher, but these days are recognized on an International level, playing shows in South Africa, China, Spain, Denmark, Finland, Dubai and Ibiza to name just a handful. Nationally they play for Pacha, Godskitchen, Red Room Sessions, Garlands, Rise, Sugar Shack, Dusted, Honeyclub, Cross, Escape and Play. In addition to all this they still find time to be residents for KissdaFunk at Mission in Leeds, Dusted at Egg in London, and Judgement Sundays in Ibiza. For the last few years the Trophy Twins have been developing their diverse and varied sound amongst the rising stars of the House scene, when in 2003 they were announced as Mixmag Future Heroes aside Nic Fanciulli and Tom Neville.

TROPHY TWINS (UK)The Trophy Twins are no strangers at major events. They performed a live mix for Radio 1s Ibiza weekend in 2004 to over 1 million listeners and In addition they have performed at Godskitchen Global Gathering 2005, Creamfields 2004 (Radio 1 Outdoor stage), Gatecrasher Summer Sound System, Radio 1s Secret Party in Ibiza, Escape in the Park, MTV’s Aquasonic Festival in Ibiza, the main stage at Radio 1s 12,000 strong One Big Weekend at Perry Park in Birmingham 2004 and more recently for the 2005 Radio 1 One Big Weekend in Sunderland. Due to performing at Radio 1 events with their technical flair and cheeky way the Radio 1 bosses decided to enroll them into a specially selected team of DJ’s that host a new specialist dance show ‘The Residency’. The Trophies feature alongside Eddie Halliwell, Nic Fancuilli, Crissy Criss, Jon O’Bir & Kutski, Tayo & Plastician. For further information check out www.bbc.co.uk/radio1. In 2004 they mixed one disc on Goodgreef’s critically acclaimed debut album and in 2005 mixed one disc on the highly successful Judgement Euphoria compilation.

The past couple of years and they have barely been out of the studio. Working on various remix projects and original material lead to them joining the 24 Management team, and, the launch of their own label with Funkagenda, ‘Pop Pop Records’. Their debut release, 'Anarchism' on Global recordings gained heavy support from the likes of Deep Dish and Steve Lawler. “Dutty Rhythm” was aired for four weeks continuously by Judge Jules on his Saturday evening Radio1 show and was backed by everyone from Tom Neville to Seb Fontaine. “ill Experience” on Red Recordings received big support by Carl Cox [5/5] and Pete Tong, playing it both on his live Essential Mix from Space in Ibiza, and on the Essential Selection too. Their remix of “Can’t Take No More” by Disciples of Sound also on Red Recordings was championed by Mark Knight and Tom Stephan (Superchumbo), who played it on his Kiss 100 radio show. The Trophy Twins remixed a third track for Red Recordings, ‘High’ by Disciples of Sound, then having produced on all 3 of their first 3 releases, which Carl Cox then named label of the year 2005. Their remix of the Flash Brothers - “Happy” was supported by Nic Fancuilli and they also remixed ‘Let The Music Play’ by Genie Queen, a new girl group managed by Andy McClusky who was responsible for Atomic Kitten. Their remix of Armand Van Heldens ‘When The Lights Go Down’ was featured in Music Week and got to both #5 and #6 in the DMC club charts, was featured on Ministry of Sounds Annual 2006 compilation, and received plays on Radio1 from Annie Mac, as did their recent remix of Flanders ‘By My Side’ forthcoming on Gut Records. The Trophies mix of Olav Basoski ‘Waterman’ on Positiva went to #4 in the Coolcuts Chart, and their mix of Angie Browns ‘Give You Up’ received 6 weeks continuous play on Judge Jules Radio1 show. ‘Never Alone’ by Artificial Funk was huge for everyone from Tong to Morillo, championing their ‘FATT’ mix collaboration with Funkaganda. Look out for forthcoming collaborations with Chris Lake ‘Babaloo’ & Funkagenda ‘Pete Loves Rat’ already receiving support from the Shapeshifters and plays on Radio1.

JIMMY HILL (Harlem Records, UK)

It was back in 1995 that Jimmy Hill first fell under the DJ'ing spell. After a particularly heavy weekend out clubbing, Jimmy walked into a record shop one morning and bought a handful of tunes. After getting home and realizing he had nothing to play them on, it was back out to get some Technichs 1210's! Two years later and Jimmy is spinning in bars all over his home city of Birmingham and beginning to pick up gigs in clubs in the Midlands. It was these early sets that Jimmy's reputation for delivering the perfect soundtrack to a night began and in a short time he was guesting at some of Birmingham's bigger clubs. Deacadance, SLAG, Lovesexy and Republica all rocked to the sound of Jimmy's beats in early 1997.

JIMMY HILL (UK)That Summer Jimmy found himself far away from Birmingham as he took on a residency at one of the biggest clubs in Ibiza, Kaos (now Eden). Here it was normal for Jimmy to spin an eight hour set and then shoot off to do another four hour set at an after party. "I learned how to play properly that summer, I DJ'ed more than I slept and just had the best time." says Jimmy. Whilst in Ibiza Jimmy played at some of the finest venues on the island, Mambo, El Divino, Café Del mar and Es Paradis to name but a few as Jimmy began to win a small army of fans. On his return to the UK that autumn, Jimmy's workload went through the roof as promoters began to catch on to what Jimmy Hill was about. Guest slots followed at The Ministry of Sound, Godskitchen, Slinky, Golden, Ultra Vegas and many more of the UK's leading nights as Jimmy went from strength to strength. Residencies followed at Golden, Republica, Godskitchen, Ultra Vegas and Jimmy was now beginning to land gigs all over the world. As Parks and Wilson said at the time, "Jimmy's ear for a tune is second to none and his attention to detail in the mix is amazing, it's a pleasure to hear him play." Mixmag June 1998

Leap forward to NYE 2000, the Millennium. Jimmy finds himself DJ'ing in Brisbane Australia as he plays the midnight slot. The boy from Birmingham has come a long way and before the year is out he will have played on every continent. As trance and hard house was beginning to take over clubland in 2001, Jimmy took a step back from his residencies. "I never really got the hard house sound. At Republica and Golden I started to enjoy doing the warm up slot instead every week. It wasn't bosh bosh bosh. I could just play with grooves at around 125bpm, bits of tribal, progressive, techy stuff. Stuff that made me move. It was always important to me that the music I played had to move me before I could move a floor. It made me rethink the way I played and programmed my music. I loved it. You won't believe how many big name DJ's said to me that they loved what I was doing and how they wished that they had a chance to play the stuff that I was dropping. That was a big compliment."

2002 and Jimmy signs up to a new residency as part of the TranzWorld Allstars team from Germany. Jimmy still holds this residency today, which takes him to Germany every six weeks to Tarm in Cologne and Kinky Palace in Stuttgart. Both massive clubs where Jimmy feels he can really express himself musically. Late 2004 will see a worldwide tour taking in Australia, Asia and the USA. Before that though expect to see Jimmy at Godskitchen regularly as the club opens up to the sound of cool, dirty, sexy house music, with the introduction of the 'Dex In The City' room, Promise, The Gallery and many more in the UK, the legendary terrace at Space in Ibiza and all over Europe. With a guest mix on Fergie's Radio 1 show in September also confirmed, there's no way you can miss him this year.

Studio wise and Jimmy has been burying himself in the studio this year. A new AA single, The Good Sandwich Vibe / Acid Rock gets a full worldwide release on Steve Lawler's Harlem Recordings at the end of July. Radio 1 airplay has been strong for the tracks receiving plays from Fergie and Pete Tong and reaching number 3 in the Plastic Fantastic Buzz Chart. On the dancefloors it was spun worldwide by Sasha, Deep Dish, Nic Fancuilli and just about everyone who knows their salt. The follow up single, "Totally Porno' is already finished and is nothing short of huge. Already snapped up by Lawler for Harlem Records, it has rocked the tents at Homelands, Creamfields and Global Gathering and dancefloors across the globe. With several remixes also due for release this year, it looks set to be another big year ahead for Jimmy Hill. With a long list of new projects and remixes in the pipeline and already working on the mysterious Punkrok Project with a number of the industries figureheads Jimmy is fast becoming one of the hottest and most demanded properties in the international production scene.

"I signed Jimmy Hill to my record label Harlem, as he's making some seriously good, dirty house music, which has been firmly in my record box for months, and rocking dance floors worldwide. Trust me, watch this man fly!" Steve Lawler (July 2004)

"Jimmy has to be one of my favorite DJs. There are not many DJs anymore that have such an individual sound and presence - he is a true performer in all senses of the word. Maybe he should have been in a rock band, but I'm glad he isn't." Mark Gillespie (Godskitchen Talent Booker, August 2004)
