Last night was one of those gigs Id like to forget. It started off by me going on a tad bit to early at the venue while nursing a full a blown case of tinitus. When I first went on I I attemted to spin with my custom earplugs to avoid futher hearing damage. After about 15 minutes I had to cease on using them as I had a problem hearing the highs which was resulting in not so smooth mixes. After a bit of adjustments to the monitors and headphones I started to find my flow. Now as the floor starts getting a bit more full people started to jump on the stage to dance. As Im in a middle of mix this drunk guy walks off lifts my cigarrette box and proceeds to rudely take one and then knocks my beer over which spilled into the mixer. I grabbed my box of smokes back and told him to get off the stage. Did he listen? No. So I want back stage and asked someone to have him removed.
A bouncer comes up says some words to him and lets him stay. Still fuming that they allowed him to stay and losing total concentration on what I was mixing as the mixer channel is now soaked in beer I decided to take actions on my own. I put the headphones down and told him to get off the stage but he resisted again. At this point I put my arm around to walk him off but he was still being a drunken ass so I decided to forcefully push him off the stage with a nice right foot kick in the ass. Now as here clealry got my message to get the fuck off the bouncers rushed up and finally threw him out. So back on the setup I quickly forgot about it and got into my set again only to have the next dj come a 1/2 hour before his set and start breathing down my neck while he is getting his records ready for his set. I told the guy nicely that I had 15 minutes left of my set. Exactly five minutes before my set I went to throw on the last record when this dj cops a major attitude. I tell him I have five minutes so he whips out his cell phone to show me the time as if Im cutting into his set. The time on his phone 1:24. So I look at him and tell him Im playing one more. When I finish the mix I walked around and told him straight to his face that he was highly rude and should have some respect. So now this arrogant person wants to prove his skills the second Im out of my mix by spontaneously cutting up into his record straight away. Needless to say I enjoyed wathcing him try and show me up with a nice trainwreck. Im really curious to what is with many of these hard loop techno dj's. Many of them including the big names are highly aggorant. Another reason to why I dislike this form of music.
Anyways after my set I go backstage to have a drink and calm down. Just when I start to chill the promoter who booked me through a third party approachs me and asks me to take less of fee then what was agreed upon. My answer to his question was a straight NO. I felt uncompelled to do so as this same promoter had never answered one of my e-mails since my friend got the booking for me back in August. If the promoter was nice from the start I would of but I saw no reason since the club was moderately full and he never really made helped me out early on in the booking when I had asked to check flights for me from Vienna because I had a hard time doing so in the States. I must say soon after I left and this surely became a night I wish to forget. It was in stark contrast to great nights in Belgium and Stuttgart. Im sure my gig in Edinburgh will be a good one so good bye Vienna. Maybe this city will make it up to me next time. If their is a next time. Anyone else spin out here ever have to deal with this bullshit?
